I was thinking the other day about what possibilities there are in linking the psychology of Vygotsky with the linguistics of Halliday. Currently this is my research.

I would like to explore not only what Halliday has to say about the use of language from a linguistic point of view and how we learn to use it in the various social settings we are exposed to, but how it directly relates to Vygotskian thinking.

Halliday and Vygotsky are on opposite ends of the spectrum but I imagine there isn't a lot different about what they are actually saying about language acquisition and use. It needs to be shown from the classroom perspective that despite their differences and the way they both approached this phenomenon, their thinking really wasn't that much different after all.
