Synopsis:

A series of research articles edited by Cahterine Doughty and Michael Long. It covers a wide range of SLA topics related to psychology, anthropology and research methods with the main view that SLA research is "increasingly viewed as a branch of cognitive science" (Doughty & Long, 2003: 4).

Table of contents:

The book is divided into 6 sections: Capacity and Representation, Processes in SLA, Biological and Psychological Constraints, Research Methods and The State of SLA

Review:

Simply a MUST have for any serious researcher or student of SLA. For those interested in the psychological aspects of language acquisition, the books section on Biological and Psychological Constraints is excellent, specifically the article by Zoltan Dornyei and Peter Skehan- Individual Differences in Second Language Learning. Their discussion of motivation and learning is very thorough.
